Castlevania (informally known as Castlevania 64) was Konami Computer Entertainment Kobe's (KCEK) attempt to move the saga's gothic atmosphere and vampire hunting into a three-dimensional world, with Reinhardt Belmont or Carrie Fernandez as selectable protagonists, exploring Dracula's castle with cameras and controls still experimental by the standards of the time.
It received mixed reviews for those camera and pacing limitations, but it's a valuable document of the saga's transition from the masterful 2D of Symphony of the Night toward three dimensions, a path Konami would keep exploring in Legacy of Darkness barely a year later.
