Battlezone - Rise of the Black Dogs adapts to Nintendo 64 the formula of Battlezone, the 1998 PC game that had revived Atari's classic first-person tank-combat arcade by fusing it with strategy and base-building elements. This version, developed by Climax Group and published by Crave Entertainment, adjusted that proposal for console controls.
It's one of the console's few games that combines a first-person combat-vehicle viewpoint with the unit management typical of strategy games, an uncommon mix that still gives it a certain interest as a design rarity within N64's catalog.
