Beatmania IIDX 7th Style brought to PS2 one of the most demanding machines in the Japanese arcade circuit: seven keys and a turntable that had to be scratched to the rhythm of original electronic tracks composed for the franchise. For this conversion, Konami kept the song catalog and the tiered difficulty that made the series an arcade classic.
Without the dedicated controller, playing it with a standard gamepad lost part of the arcade essence, but it still worked as a way of bringing the experience closer to those without an arcade nearby. It's a key piece for understanding the genealogy of Japanese rhythm music that would later inspire half the industry.
