Beatmania IIDX brought to PS2 the experience of Japanese arcade cabinets, with its seven-button keyboard and turntable simulating the work of a real DJ, over a selection of electronic tracks, J-pop, and original music that became a breeding ground for Konami's in-house composers. 8th Style added its batch of new songs to an already huge catalog. For the Japanese audience without constant access to arcade machines, these home conversions were the way to keep practicing and discovering new songs. It remains a key piece for understanding Konami's rhythm game scene before the Western boom of Dance Dance Revolution.
