Densha de Go! Professional 2 continues Taito's series dedicated to realistic train driving, requiring the player to precisely adjust speed and braking to keep schedules and avoid penalties, just as a real engineer would. It's one of the most singular expressions of the Japanese taste for turning everyday trades into video game simulation.
It never had much impact outside Japan, but within that market it cemented Densha de Go! as a long-running franchise, with a player base loyal to the almost obsessive precision the genre demands.
