187 Ride or Die came out in 2005, developed and published by Ubisoft, with Ubisoft Paris at the helm, and it put a new spin on street racing: each car is handled by two people, one driving and the other shooting from the window, both in the campaign and in co-op mode. The plot unfolded in a fictional South Central Los Angeles, with lowriders, scores to settle and an aesthetic inherited from nineties urban cinema. The cast included actors like Larenz Tate and Noel Gugliemi lending their voices and faces to the characters. Critics received it lukewarmly, but credited it with a co-op idea that the genre had rarely explored.
