Arctic Thunder started life as a Midway Games arcade cabinet in 2000 and landed on Xbox in 2001, courtesy of studio Inland Productions, as one of the titles that accompanied the console's launch. The pitch was pure arcade snowmobile racing, with tracks packed with jumps, shortcuts and power-ups, following the immediate-spectacle formula typical of coin-op machines. The Xbox port stood out for reproducing the original arcade graphics quite faithfully, something the PlayStation 2 version failed to match. It's remembered as one of the sturdiest arcade racers in the first wave of games for Microsoft's console.
