APEX, known in North America as Racing Evoluzione, arrived in 2003, developed by Italian studio Milestone and published by Infogrames Europe as an Xbox exclusive. It combined traditional arcade racing with a mode called Dream Mode, in which players ran their own car brand: choosing concept car blueprints, setting a logo and name for the company, and racing with their own creations. It was one of the most original entries in the console's arcade racing catalog during its first year, courtesy of Milestone, a studio that years later would specialize in official motorcycle-racing licenses. Its reception was mixed, with praise for Dream Mode but reservations about the handling feel.
