EA Canada developed MVP 06: NCAA Baseball, and EA Sports published it in January 2006 for Xbox and PlayStation 2, exclusively in North America. It was the series' response after losing the MLB license to Take-Two following MVP Baseball 2005, redirecting the game toward college baseball, with real NCAA teams and stadiums but no named players due to the association's rules.
It added the Road to Omaha franchise mode and a new precision pitching and batting system, and ended up being the last MVP series title on Xbox. It closed out, on an anticlimactic note, one of the best-regarded baseball franchises of the generation, right as EA was exiting the genre due to the exclusivity Take-Two Interactive had bought for 2K Sports.
