EA Canada developed MVP Baseball 2005, and EA Sports published it in 2005 for Xbox and PlayStation 2, as the third and final entry in the series with full MLB licensing. It perfected the analog-stick batting and pitching system the two previous entries had introduced, with AI and a feel for the game that critics singled out as the series' best.
Shortly after its release, Take-Two Interactive bought exclusive rights to the MLB license for its 2K Sports series, forcing EA out of the Major League genre. That forced exit, combined with the game's quality, turned MVP Baseball 2005 into a cult classic: for a large part of the video baseball fan community, it remains the best simulation of the sport ever released.
