EA Canada developed MVP Baseball 2004, and EA Sports published it in 2004 for Xbox and PlayStation 2, as the second entry in the series. It deepened the franchise mode under the name Dynasty Mode and refined the batting and pitching system introduced in the previous entry.
Critics called it a clear improvement over the first MVP Baseball, and it began cementing the series' reputation as the generation's benchmark baseball simulation, ahead of Sony's competition and even MLB: The Show in its early years. It laid the groundwork for what many still consider, to this day, the best entry in the series: MVP Baseball 2005.
