Circus Charlie is a 1984 Konami platform game in which a circus performer clears classic big-top acts -jumping through burning hoops, walking a tightrope, riding animals- across brief, well-defined screens. It's one of the earliest clear examples of themed-level structure in the genre. Its direct design and its constant turnover of new mechanics made it a minor but beloved classic, and it laid the groundwork for later platform games organized into short, varied scenarios.
