SpaceMaster X-7, developed by Sirius Software and published by 20th Century Fox in 1983 for Atari 2600, tasks the player with destroying Hyperion military bases protected by force fields: you can fire missiles through gaps in the shield from outside, or risk entering and destroying the base from within before the field closes and traps the ship. With an intense, almost psychedelic color palette, its play pattern evokes Tempest without fully copying its formula, bringing its own infiltration and calculated-risk mechanics. It's one of the most ambitious shooters 20th Century Fox published for the console during its brief but prolific stint as a video game publisher.
