Treasure Island, developed by Byron Preiss Video Productions and published by Windham Classics in 1985 for MSX, Commodore 64, Apple II, and Atari ST, adapts Robert Louis Stevenson's 1883 novel in text-adventure format with illustrations accompanying each key scene: the Admiral Benbow inn, the mutiny aboard the Hispaniola, the hunt for Captain Flint's buried treasure. Unlike another adaptation of the same novel made in that same period for Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum, which was more action-oriented, this version prioritizes textual exploration and literary faithfulness. It's one of the many classic-literature adaptations Windham Classics produced in the mid-80s to bring reading closer to video games.
