Published by Toaplan in 1990, Air Duel left the studio's fingerprints on every screen: dense bullet patterns, enemies appearing in choreographed waves, and a ship choice (plane or helicopter) that changes the pace of play. Toaplan would, just a few years later, become the cradle of designers who founded Cave and Raizing. It's remembered today as one of the studio's transitional shooters, a step between its early titles and the bullet-hell school its successors would push to the extreme the following decade.
