Clay Pigeon uses a shotgun-shaped light gun so the player can shoot down as many clay targets as possible, with two modes to choose from at the start: traditional trap shooting, where the target launches in a straight line, or skeet shooting, where it crosses the field of view from side to side. Exidy published it in 1986, as part of its line of aiming games with dedicated peripherals. It's a typical representative of the sport-shooting subgenre that coexisted in arcades alongside science-fiction shooters, meant for short matches and an experience closer to a fairground game than a narrative video game.
