Astro Chase first appeared on Atari's 8-bit computers and reached the 5200 in 1983 courtesy of First Star Software, published by Parker Brothers: an omnidirectional-scrolling shooter in which the player's ship must destroy an alien fleet threatening to detonate nuclear mines in Earth orbit, with a soundtrack ambitious for its time and a map that unfolds in every direction. It was one of the best-received titles of its generation, especially praised for its sound design. Within the 5200 catalog it remains one of the system's most solid calling cards: a shooter with its own personality on a console that usually lived in the shadow of the arcades it converted.
