Base Attack has the player protecting a ground installation from waves of enemy ships or projectiles, in line with the many defense games the Atari 2600 accumulated during its peak period of third-party production. The formula — aim, shoot, repel the next wave — is direct and doesn't stray far from the template Space Invaders had set years earlier. It's a minor title within the console's enormous library, the kind only the most thorough collectors bother rescuing today, but at the time it helped fill shelves with more variants of a genre the public never seemed to tire of.
