K-Razy Shoot-Out arrived in 1983, developed by studio K-Byte and published by CBS Electronics: the player controls a vehicle inside a closed arena, firing at waves of enemies appearing from every angle, with difficulty ramping up quickly as the score climbs. It was part of the first wave of outside licenses to try their luck with the 5200 catalog, at a time when third parties like Parker Brothers and Activision were already competing heavily with Atari. Its direct, no-frills design —survive as long as possible in an enclosed space— makes it a good example of the kind of arcade shooter that dominated store shelves before the paradigm shift platformers brought in the mid-80s.
