Laser Blast puts the player in command of a cannon moving along the ground, firing upward at flying saucers, with the direct reflex-and-score formula that defined much of Activision's early catalog. It was one of the company's first commercial hits and helped cement its reputation for quality within the Atari 2600's third-party catalog; today it's enjoyed as a simple but well-calibrated shooter.
