Rampart arrived on the Lynx in 1992, published by Atari Corporation as a conversion of Atari Games' 1990 arcade machine: each match alternates between a combat phase, where you fire cannons at rival castles, and a building phase, where you must repair and expand your own walls with Tetris pieces before the next assault begins. That blend of strategy and real-time action set it apart from the rest of the handheld catalog. Decades later, it remains one of the most cited examples of how to combine seemingly incompatible genres — the artillery shooter and the falling-piece puzzle — into a formula that works with its own solidity.
