Snoopy and the Red Baron is the shooter Atari published in 1983 for the 2600, the first video game based on Charles M. Schulz's Peanuts comic strip: Snoopy, perched on his doghouse turned into a fantasy biplane, must shoot down his aerial archrival, the Red Baron, taking eight hits to defeat him while dodging his attacks. An alternate variant rewards collecting treats the Baron drops, while avoiding skulls and crossbones along the way.
The game reached the market almost by default: it beat out another licensed project, Bugs Bunny, in internal tests, which ended up shelved, and it shipped in a special box under the Children's Computer Workshop label, used on very few Atari 2600 cartridges. It's also one of the few video games to carry Schulz's direct blessing.
