Star Fox, written by Bruce de Graaf and published by the small Mythicon in 1983, has no relation whatsoever to the Nintendo saga that would arrive a decade later: here the player must recover trimetalisium crystals from a robot cargo ship crashed on the planetoid Beta-7, before an enemy cruiser escorted by combat drones gets to them first. Landing on the surface to collect the crystals means being exposed to attacks from the drones above, the design's main source of tension. Mythicon is remembered among Atari 2600 collectors for having released just three games, all sold at bargain-bin prices and with a reputation for poor quality; despite the promise of "Game 1 of the Star Fox Series" printed on the box, a second entry never came.
