Tac/Scan is the vector-graphics shooter Sega released to arcades in November 1982, with an unusual twist on the genre: instead of piloting a single ship, the player commands an entire squadron of up to seven units in formation, ordering them to fire, regroup, or execute special maneuvers while the camera switches between an overhead view and a third-person perspective. It was Sega's only vector arcade game with a vertical-format screen.
Ports were planned for Atari 2600, Atari's 8-bit computers, Intellivision, Atari 5200, and Commodore VIC-20, but of all of them only the Atari 2600 version ended up published, in 1983. The rest were shelved, one more chapter in the wave of canceled projects left behind by the collapse of the third-party market in those years.
