Wizard of Wor is the maze arcade game Dave Nutting Associates developed and Midway published in 1981: one or two players control their own Worriors, who must eliminate all the monsters in each enclosed dungeon, with the option to shoot each other in two-player mode to earn extra points at the cost of a rival's life. Its most memorable feature is the Wizard's synthesized voice, which taunts players in a menacing robotic tone, one of the earliest notable applications of that technology in an arcade game.
It ran on hardware nearly identical to Gorf, another arcade game from the same company that also used synthesized voice, which explains the technical resemblance between the two titles. Wizard of Wor got an enormous number of home ports throughout the 80s, cementing its place as one of the great cooperative classics of the golden arcade era.
