Moon Patrol arrived on the 5200 in 1983, developed and published by Atari, Inc., as a conversion of Irem's arcade that had popularized side-scrolling with background layers moving at different speeds, a pioneering parallax technique for its time: the player drives a lunar vehicle that must jump over craters and rocks while shooting both forward and upward, dodging enemy ship fire. It was one of the first games to popularize that visual-depth effect at home. It's one of the most influential arcade conversions in the 5200's early catalog, remembered both for its agile gameplay and for its technical contribution to the visual language of side-scrolling shooters.
