Raiden arrived on the Jaguar in 1993, developed by Imagitec Design and published by Atari Corporation, as a conversion of Seibu Kaihatsu's 1990 arcade that had become a mandatory reference for the vertical ship shooter genre: the player pilots a fighter jet firing nonstop at waves of enemies and full-screen bosses, accumulating weapon upgrades as they advance. The constant upward scrolling and the screen-filling saturation of projectiles are the essence of the genre it helped establish. It's one of the most direct and effective arcade conversions the Jaguar's early catalog received, at a time when the console was still adding heavyweight licenses from the Japanese arcade circuit.
