Capcom turned the fighting arena into an amusement park: four simultaneous players, stages that collapse mid-battle — from a plummeting airship to a submarine — and absurd weapons scattered everywhere. It was so popular in Japan that it spawned its own anime series. Its DNA shows up in every party-fighter that followed, and fans have spent twenty-five years asking, in vain, for a third entry.
