Developed by the Florida-based studio n-Space -which would become the regular developer for every DS Call of Duty- and published by Activision in 2007, this adaptation carries the contemporary-conflict setting of the original Modern Warfare into its own campaign, distinct from the home-console one, with controls designed for the stylus and the handheld's limited hardware.
Although far behind its PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC versions in technical polish, it achieved its goal of bringing the Call of Duty brand to a mass handheld audience, and it laid the groundwork for the approach n-Space would repeat in the saga's following Nintendo DS entries.
