Nightfire debuted in 2002, developed by British studio Eurocom and published by Electronic Arts, with an original story about an arms tycoon threatening world peace. The first-person shooter alternated infiltration missions with the series' classic gadgets and vehicle-action stretches, including a snowmobile chase fondly remembered by players of the time. It shared its release year with GameCube and PlayStation 2 versions, plus a quite different multiplayer-focused PC adaptation. On Xbox it was valued as a solid alternative to GoldenEye 007, with graphics polished for Microsoft's hardware and a multiplayer mode that gave it extra life in living rooms.
