RoadKill, developed by Terminal Reality and released in 2003, blended street racing with vehicular combat in an open world of gangs and post-apocalyptic chaos. The player starts out selling used cars until getting dragged into a territorial gang war, with the option to build a vehicle armed with machine guns, flamethrowers, and every kind of improvised artillery.
The mission structure combined deliveries, chases, and demolitions across fairly open urban settings for its time, with an unpretentious tone that paid homage to both Mad Max and exploitation racing cinema. It never reached the polish of the genre's biggest names, but for anyone after straightforward vehicular destruction, it delivered in spades.
