Baldur's Gate - Dark Alliance took the Dungeons & Dragons license and reworked it into a direct-action ARPG, with real-time combat, constant loot, and split-screen co-op, moving away from the slow, tactical pace of BioWare's PC Baldur's Gate games. Snowblind Studios, founded by Blizzard North veterans, gave it a DNA close to Diablo's.
Its critical and commercial success made it one of the most fondly remembered console ARPGs of the generation, and it laid the groundwork for a formula Snowblind would repeat later with Champions of Norrath and other titles in the genre.
