Tanks But No Tanks, published by ZiMAG in 1982 for Atari 2600, has the player protect a command post located at the bottom center of the screen from three progressive waves of enemy tanks, twenty per screen, with a wall maze in the first phase, a protective island in the second, and open ground with no obstacles in the third. Colliding with an enemy tank is sometimes the only way to keep it from reaching the command post, forcing the player to sacrifice a life just to protect the real objective. It mixes elements taken from Combat and Wizard of Wor in a design that looks crude by today's standards, but was surprisingly tense and unpredictable for its year.
