Dawn of Mana rebooted the Seiken Densetsu saga's timeline with an offering that surprised longtime fans: instead of the cooperative action RPG the series had been offering since Secret of Mana, it bet on linear levels where combat is resolved by pushing and throwing objects and enemies with exaggerated physics, closer to puzzle-action than to traditional role-playing.
It's a contested entry within the saga, valued for its art direction and soundtrack, but also remembered as an experiment that split the fanbase that had expected a return to Mana's classic formula.
