After cutting its teeth on other people's licenses, like Baldur's Gate or Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, BioWare used Jade Empire to test itself with the studio's first original RPG universe: a fantasy empire inspired by Chinese mythology and martial arts, with a combat system that combined fists, weapons and magic and could be switched on the fly depending on the chosen style.
It came out in April 2005 as an Xbox exclusive, the console that had already become the home of that generation's ambitious Western RPGs, adding another name to that list alongside Morrowind and Fable. It later reached PC and, eventually, mobile platforms, but at launch it was Microsoft's exclusive card.
This system doesn't run in the browser yet (Dreamcast, GameCube, PS2 and Xbox are on the way as web emulation matures). The dossier, media and community are already all yours.
