It alternates between two play scenes within the same cartridge: first you have to catch, with a tractor beam, the creatures floating around a planet before time runs out, and then defend the mothership — the "cosmic ark" of the title — from a hail of meteors while it takes off toward the next destination. That two-act structure, uncommon in the 2600's catalog, gave it its own identity within Imagic's already ample shooter lineup.
It's remembered as one of the most polished titles from one of the third-party companies that best understood, in its day, how to squeeze aesthetic value out of Atari's hardware.
