Tutankham, a 1982 Konami arcade game, combines the maze shooter with puzzle elements: armed with a weapon that only fires horizontally, the player loots Tutankhamun's tomb searching for keys to open sealed chambers while dodging snakes, vultures, bats, and other threats from the Egyptian afterlife. Parker Brothers brought it to Atari 2600 in June 1983, though the console's limitations forced a radical change: instead of the original's horizontal scrolling, the home version moves vertically and reduces the mazes to little more than straight corridors. Beyond that forced simplification, it's recognized as one of the earliest maze shooters with an action-adventure structure, a direct precursor to formulas games like Gauntlet would perfect years later.
